Hosting a live Boomathon session
The Host control page is where you run a Boomathon session: check readiness, open the lobby, start and advance rounds, watch every team side by side and end the session. Open it from the event page or the session drawer. This article follows a session from set-up to summary.
The session lifecycle
Sessions move through Scheduled, Lobby open, Live and Completed. Most of this happens automatically:
- The lobby opens on its own at the start time, provided your credits allow it. You can also click Open lobby earlier (you need at least one team).
- The session goes Live when the first round starts. Start session starts it by hand.
- It completes when the preset's time is up, or when you click End session. Ending is final: "This locks results and sends every participant to the summary view. It cannot be undone."
Before going live
The Teams area shows a card per team with its name (hover for the rename pencil), how many members are in and the team size, the member list and the move controls. A badge shows Stream ready, Setting up stream... or Stream not set up yet. Self-service registrants wait in Unassigned until teams form automatically 30 minutes before the start; assign them yourself if you want to choose the split.
The readiness card on the right says Ready or Not ready yet, with a green or amber dot against each check:
- Your game and stream credits for this session.
- "Every team has a Boomerang stream." or how many teams are still setting up.
- "Every participant has a seat." or how many have no seat yet.
- Whether the last stream set-up attempt failed.
If something is amber, click Retry stream set-up. Set-up is also retried automatically before kick-off. Below the card you will find the Participant claim link (roster sessions) and a collapsible Facilitator script.
Two banners can appear at the top of the page. Waiting for credits means the session did not open because game credits are short, and Stream set-up needs attention means a team's stream could not be created. Both are explained in Credits for Boomathon.
In the lobby
Once the lobby is open, each team card gains a Facilitator view link that opens the team's Boomerang stream in a new tab, with the team's name shown at the top right over the stream. Green dots show who has checked in. Participants' own pages load their streams automatically just before the start.
Live view
When the session is live the page shows one column per team, side by side:
- The team name, "Round N of M", running block count and quota percentage.
- A small teamship radar of the six qualities and the team's Teamship score. Until there is enough evidence it shows a dash with the tooltip "Awaiting evidence".
- The team's seats, each with a stream status dot (Streaming, Ready to launch, Stream planned or Stream ended) and the player's role letter and colour, or Facilitator.
- Edit roles for the next round - see Editing Boomathon team roles between rounds.
- Advance round for that team, and Facilitator view.
Above the columns, Advance all rounds moves every team on at once, and the Event Mission bar tracks the event's shared block target. A Leaderboard table below lists the teams that have scores so far.
Observation room
Click Observe in the header to open the Observation room in a new tab. It shows a strip per team (round, quota ring, blocks collected and teamship score with six small bars) and, under each strip, every participant's live stream as a tile. It is watch-only: tiles cannot be clicked into. Click a tile to see that stream full size and All streams to go back. This is useful for a second screen in the room or for a client sponsor who wants to watch.
Ending the session
When the preset's time is up, or after End session, the page shows Session complete with Open the summary. The summary presents each team's teamship profile, block collection and round-by-round progress; see Boomathon teamship stats and reports. The host's Share Results button creates a public results link for a team.
