Credits for Boomathon

A Boomathon session uses two kinds of credit from your organisation's account, and the Boomathon screens tell you at every step whether you have enough. This article explains what is charged, where to check, and what happens when credits run short.

The two kinds of credit

  • Game credits - your normal Jenson8 credits, charged for the Boomerang rounds played. On per-game billing that is one charge per paid round per team; on per-person billing it is one credit per participant. See Overview of the Billing and Credit System.
  • Jenson8 stream credits - one credit for each browser stream that starts: every participant plus each team's facilitator seat. See Jenson8 stream credits.

Both balances are shown on your organisation's Billing and usage tab in the Jenson8 Dashboard.

The Credits panel

A Credits panel appears on the New event screen, on + Add session, on the session drawer's Settings tab and on the host page's readiness card. It shows:

  • Your game credits: "You have N credits - enough for N rounds." (or, on per-person billing, "enough for N participants").
  • Your stream credits: "Jenson8 stream credits available: N (one per participant and facilitator)."
  • An estimate for the session: "This needs about P participants in T teams, R paid rounds, and S stream credits." Teams are counted as one per 12 participants, and stream credits as participants plus teams.

Any shortfall is shown in red, ending "Top up before the session, or it can't be set up." You can still save the event or session; the panel is a warning, so you have time to top up before the day.

What is blocked when game credits are short

  • Open lobby and Start session are refused: "Not enough game credits to run this session: it needs credits for N rounds but there are only enough for M. Top up, then try again."
  • If the session reaches its start time without enough game credits it stays Scheduled. The host page shows a Waiting for credits banner ending "Top up and the session opens automatically.", and the event's creator receives one email with the subject "Action needed: [event] is waiting for credits".
  • Once you top up, the session opens on its own, or you can open it from the host page.
  • A session that is already running is never stopped for credits.

What is blocked when stream credits are short

Stream credits are checked whenever people are added: roster import, automatic team formation, self-registration, and any move that needs a new stream. A shortfall rolls the whole change back and nothing is saved:

  • Roster import: "Not enough Jenson8 stream credits: this needs N (X participant(s) + Y new team facilitator seat(s)) but only Z are available. Nothing was added. Top up stream credits and try again."
  • Self-registration: each sign-up reserves a credit. Once they are used up, further sign-ups are refused. The participant is not told about credits; they see "Registration for this session isn't available right now. Please let the event organiser know so they can sort it out."
  • Automatic team formation 30 minutes before the start: if streams cannot be created, the host page shows Stream set-up needs attention and the event creator receives one email, "Action needed: stream set-up for [event]". Set-up is retried automatically before kick-off, or click Retry stream set-up on the host page once you have topped up.

Renaming, moving or removing a participant never needs a new stream, so these are never refused.
