Editing Boomathon team roles between rounds

Boomathon normally assigns Boomerang roles and colours automatically and rotates them each round, so every participant experiences different roles. The role editor lets a host override this for the next round by dragging players around a grid. Use it when a specific person needs a specific role, to pair particular people, or to bench someone who has stepped away.

Opening the editor

  • On the live Host control page, click Edit roles in a team's column. The button reads Roles - set by hand once you have made changes. The dialog is titled "Team name - roles for the next round".
  • On a team's page, or on the Team Scores tab of the facilitator view, click Edit roles (or View roles when the round cannot be changed).

The editor is available once the team's Boomerang stream is set up.

Using the grid

The grid has one row per role and one column per colour, under the heading "Round N roles". The help text reads: "Drag a player onto another to swap, into a free cell to move, or into the tray to bench them."

  • Swap - drop a player onto another player. They exchange role and colour.
  • Move - drop a player into a cell marked "free".
  • Bench - drop a player into the Not in this round tray. They sit this round out and remain on the team.

Only roles the preset can actually seat someone in are shown, each with its name and a counter such as "2/2". If the preset uses custom role names, they appear here. Players who have not yet opened their link are marked "away". The facilitator row is fixed and cannot be changed.

Saving and releasing

Every drop saves immediately. The round is then marked Set by hand - automatic rotation paused for this round. Later rounds still rotate automatically, starting from the roster you set. Click Release to hand the round back to automatic filling.

When roles lock

Roles can be changed only until the round starts. Once it has started the editor becomes read-only with the message "This round has started; roles can't be changed now." Make your changes between rounds, before you click Advance round.

Messages you may see

  • "No room for another ... on ..." - that colour already has the maximum for the role.
  • "... already has its ... player(s)." - the role is filled on that colour.
  • "... isn't in the game stream yet; try again shortly." - the player's stream is still starting.
  • "Roles can be edited once the team's Boomerang stream is set up." - wait for the team's Stream ready badge.
