AWS Appstream 2.0 Overview
AWS Appstream 2.0 is a platform which allows Jenson8 desktop applications to be streamed and used via a web browser. There are a few key advantages to this approach:
- Appstream uses standard HTTP connections, so it is rarely blocked by corporate firewalls.
- The graphics-enhanced virtual machine handles the application processes, so there are no spec requirements for client machines.
- Appstream sessions can be temporarily closed down without being disconnected from the game.
- Multiple users can access the same Appstream session, making tech support simple.
How it Works with Jenson8 Products
Jenson8 has fleets graphics-enhanced virtual machines available in a number of locations across the world. Appstream allows us to utilise these virtual machines to run both Boomerang Desktop and Apollo Desktop in a kiosk environment with easy pre-authenticated URL access options for participants.
Once a participant has opened a session in their browser, they can use the relevant Jenson8 application (this behaves the same as the Windows application).
Requirements
To use Appstream, users must have the following:
- A laptop/PC - Windows, Mac, Chromebook or Linux are all compatible. Tablets can also be used but only as a facilitator.
- Internet access - a strong, low-latency network will ensure the user experience is optimal.
- A HTML5-capable browser - we recommend Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome. Some of our users have experienced issues with Safari.
- A mouse - this makes it easier to navigate the Jenson8 environments as a player.
Regions
Ensuring participants connect to Appstream sessions in their nearest region is essential. Jenson8 currently has fleets in the following locations:
Region (server location)
- Europe (London)
- North America (Ohio)
- South America (São Paulo)
- AP South (Mumbai)
- AP South East (Singapore)
- Oceania (Sydney)
